Malcolm McLeod started drafting an update to the third edition of this handbook in 2019, with the support of Gerard Grealish and Sam Carrick. The project paused during the Covid-19 pandemic but resumed under Lauren O’Brien in 2023, with the support of the Soil Description Working Group.
